In fairness to the Suburban, this is a brokenness I was aware of...but it was a known unknown. I knew there was a leak, I didn’t know what fluid or from where.

Kinja'd!!!

The power steering was whining so I assumed it was that and man was I wrong. It’s leaking oil BIGLY, but it’s leaking it from an oil cooler line. It’s both a cheap part and an easy repair, so I lucked out on that.

The power steering whine is still a thing. I’ll check the fluid in the morning, I don’t see any evidence of a leak there but maybe it’s a slow one. The oil leak is the bigger issue, clearly.

Once the oil leak is fixed tomorrow I’m going to take it for a decent drive and report back on it. So far it seems to drive great, and obviously it looks fabulous. Big fan of the Suburban, which I’m calling the Canyonero for obvious reasons, so far.

Mover of people and stuff. Back in my youths I’d regularly sleep in the back while going on trips in my buddy’s parents Suburban....  Until we went off the road on the way home from ski trip. Much bruising that afternoon. Great buy!

On my Silverado it had a power steering leak that never left a puddle. It only leaked while I was driving so I had a heck of a time finding it.

Looks good! I love suburbans, I had an 83 with the 6.2 that was amazing. Being 80's GM is had reliability issues but anything not diesel specific was fairly cheap, unfortunately it was usually something diesel related that was broken.

Ultimately I sold it since I didn’t have much use for it as I had something else that could pull a trailer better but I do miss it.

Yesterday I was borrowing a Yukon from work to drive from Chicago to around the IN-OH border to meet this Suburban coming from eastern Ohio to transfer some large items difficult to ship.

Poor guy’s transmission broke down about an hour east of Toledo. It was about an extra 5 hours of driving for me and he got to wait on the side of 90 a couple hours.

Fortunately his boss brought the trailer. So you’re not in bad shape at all. I do like the styling on that vintage of yours.

$30 fix, completed this morning. I’m very happy with the truck, it’s perfect for what I do.

I’ve got a pair of GMT800s, a Tahoe and an Escalade, both have been excellent but I did have the tranny rebuilt on the Caddy so that story is no surprise to me, haha. I definitely prefer the styling of this one to my 04 Tahoe, helps that it’s the last year of this body style so it’s as new as possible while still have the cool old body style.
